Why Does Energy Availability Matter to Schuyler County?
Reliable energy affects more than the electric grid. It affects whether existing businesses can expand, whether new employers choose Schuyler County, and whether the community can support new jobs, housing, and investment. As electricity demand grows across New York, communities with limited available capacity may find it harder to compete for business growth and new residents. Other areas of the state may be better positioned to because they have the infrastructure needed to support growth.
For a small county, this matters directly. We need enough economic activity and residential growth to sustain our workforce, schools, local services, housing market, and tax base. Attracting and retaining people is just as important as attracting businesses, and both depend on having the infrastructure needed for long-term growth.
That is why FLX Gateway is paying attention. We want to understand what energy options may be available in the future, how they could affect local costs and reliability, and whether any could help Schuyler County. Advanced nuclear is one of several technologies being discussed. FLX Gateway is not promoting a specific project. Our role is to stay informed, ask questions, and help the community understand what these changes could mean locally.
